Hi, I’m Joe.
I offer Compassionate Inquiry sessions that help you look back to move forward, towards the life you really want to live.
Sessions are 60 mins and run Tues, Weds & Thurs on Zoom.
Pay what feels right through the gift economy.
Informed by my training with Gabor Maté and my therapist Sat Dharam Kaur, my aim is to help you trust your own process and to understand how each and every thought and behaviour you have is just you doing the best you can – with the capacity you have right now – to take care of yourself.
We’ll work together to shine a light on the subconscious patterns beneath your thoughts, reactions and coping strategies and then start to make the small changes you want to make.

Let’s meet as we are right now
I’ll welcome you as you are right now – even if that’s not how you hoped to show up today. We’ll make space for how you are really feeling and get clear about what you would like to explore together.

I’ll give you a leg-up to a new point of view
I won’t mistake you for all the problems you present me with – I’ll give you a leg-up so you can see yourself from a different perspective. What if all these problems you thought you had are actually just fantastic ways you’ve coped?

We’ll flow with your process
You process is unique and together we will trust where it wants to takes us. Flowing with curiosity, we might take a turn that, at first, seems like a strange way to go but ends up being the way you needed to go all along.

Adventure awaits
Where do you want to take your life? How do you want to show up in the world? As your capacity to be grounded, mindful and present grows, I’ll be here to support you as you venture out into your exciting new world full of possibilities with your new ways of being!

About my approach
I mainly work with clients using the Compassionate Inquiry approach developed by Gabor Maté.
This approach involves connecting with the physical sensations, emotions, childhood memories and core beliefs that are stored in your body.
You do not need any previous experience – just an openness and curiosity to explore what comes up!
We’ll go at your pace and work with your process.

Working with Joe has been a collaborative process
… and I’m so grateful for the sense of equality in our sessions. The sessions have given me more understanding of my thought patterns and emotions and Joe has guided me to find steps forward toward more balance and calm without prescribing specific plans.
Joe is completely non judgmental, incredibly supportive and has made me realise that change doesn’t always have to come from a place of seriousness and intensity. I feel guided and encouraged without feeling any pressure to make certain levels of progress.

What can sessions help me with?
My sessions have helped people to identify their needs and express them, relate with partners, parents and friends, access suppressed anger & sadness, physical tremors, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, sexual abuse, burnout, recovering from cult/religious abuse, overwhelm at the state of the world, miscarriage, shame, self-worth, negative beliefs, anxiety, depression – and many other things!
You are very welcome to just try one and there’s no minimum or maximum amount of sessions.

The gift economy
I don’t have a fixed price for my sessions!
Instead, I work with you to find a number that feels right to both of us, based on our current circumstances and your desire to support my work.
Some people need an orientation number to get an idea of an average, so here it is: £75/session (that’s 90€/$100 USD/$130 CAD).
Generally speaking, clients with higher wages and savings pay me more and those putting aside less each month pay me less.
Thanks to the gift economy, I’m able to work with clients from a diverse array of backgrounds whilst minimising the stigma by not having ‘cheap rates for poor people’.
If the gift economy makes you feel uncomfortable (don’t worry, you’re not the only one!), you can always start by paying me £75 or equivalent per session and then we can take it from there.

When to transfer and how?
I ask you to pay in advance for your sessions every four weeks. So that’s two in advance for fortnightly, four in advance for weekly.
If you only have a trial session, the transfer is due that same day once our session is complete.
Payment by bank transfer only. I accept payment in pounds, euros, USD or CAD (via Interac e-Transfer).

Every time I have been in a session with Joe…
… no matter the intensity or quality of my emotions, he gently, lovingly gives me space while being there, present with me.
I feel held, respected, guided and accompanied. I feel safe and his compassion and openness helps me to open to my emotions with compassion. He has a light and playful side as well which creates lightness in the session.

A bit about me

I am really grateful to have a (generally!) beautiful life. I love growing vegetables, listening to heavy metal, playing videogames, being a coffee nerd, yoga, running and walking the dog in the hills!
Doing all the above (and more) and enjoying my life as much as I can is vital to me as a coach holding space for you but also just for me to enjoy my life! If I’m not living a fun and authentic life, what would be the point in encouraging others such as yourself to do this deep and sometimes difficult work?

Extra to coaching, I work in the homelessness sector too as a facilitator & consultant with a passion for helping frontline workers, managers and CEOs to do their ‘self development stuff’ and take care of themselves whilst they’re taking care of others.

I value Joe’s commitment to learning and growth – for himself and for his clients.
What most impressed me as one of his mentor coaches is that Joe offers who he is as a sentient human being to those he works with, rather than delivering a bunch of tools and techniques.
His coaching includes all the elements of the framework for professional coaching PLUS who he is in this world.
If you are looking for a coach who offers high human touch combined with well developed coaching knowledge and skills, and someone with creativity, humour and compassion, contact Joe to experience what he can offer you.

The professional stuff

I’m a member of the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (who have independently verified my Life Coaching and Compassionate Inquiry training) and I abide by their code of ethics.
In January 2025 I certified as a Compassionate Inquiry Practitioner.

Prior to certification, I completed the 6 month Compassionate Inquiry® Mentorship Program (the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced!) and the year long, 240 hour, Compassionate Inquiry® Professional Training. I continue to attend masterclasses with Gabor Maté to improve my practice.
I’ve also trained with Maura Sills (Honorary Fellow of the UK Council for Psychotherapy) at the Karuna Institute for a Diploma in Relational Mindfulness (80 hours). I have completed Solutions Academy’s 102 hour Solution Focused Coaching Fundamentals ICF Level 1 & EMCC EQA accredited coach training in which I passed the ICF Associate Certified Coach exam.
I meet with my own personal Compassionate Inquiry practitioner and coaching supervisor separately at least once per month.

On consent, power, safety & responsibility
I don’t ask you to sign consent forms when we first meet because I believe it’s really important to keep on asking for consent as we go – sometimes multiple times in each session!
As your coach, there is an inherent imbalance of power tilted towards me – my intention is always to do my best to acknowledge this and to address any issues related to this as they come up.
If I sense that you feel unsafe with me, I’ll ask you about that as soon as I notice.
If you ever feel unsafe or that there’s an issue with the power dynamic between us I really encourage you to name it as soon as you can so that we can talk about it – I won’t make you wrong. If you don’t feel comfortable naming something out loud, I’d encourage you to consider sharing by email instead.
I also don’t ask you to sign forms because I’m not going to tell you to do anything – your life is your responsibility and I believe it is my job to support you as best I can to connect to your own process to take 100% responsibility for yourself.
You may – of course – stop sessions with me at any time. I would usually prefer that we have a final session to say goodbye but I understand that sometimes this is not possible.

Thank you!
I want to thank everyone that supports me with my work.
Thank you to my fantastic CI colleagues (there are too many of you to name!)
Thank you to my therapist SDK for your unconditional love.
Thank you to my coach Svea for your infectious enthusiasm.
Thank you Max & Jez for the financial leg-ups.
Thank you Dani, Simon, Mia, Antonio, Vesta & Ben.
Thank you to anyone that’s ever shown an interest in me.
Thank you to all my incredible clients who never cease to inspire me. It’s a cliche but you teach me so much!
